Your Grease Filters Are Your First Line of Defense
Baffle filters (and mesh filters in older systems) are designed to capture grease droplets before they enter the exhaust duct. They work by creating turbulence in the airstream that causes grease particles to drop out and collect in a drain tray below.
What's Happening?
When filters become clogged with grease, two dangerous things happen: airflow through the system drops, which means your kitchen gets hotter and smokier; and grease-laden air bypasses the filter and coats the inside of your ductwork — a much harder and more expensive problem to clean.
